Yesterday, Democrats throughout New York cast their votes in primaries. Turnout was terribly low at around 7% of registered Democrats. While it was low, the Democrats spoke, and they spoke loudly. With 23,093 votes, Laura Curran won 79% of the vote compared to George Maragos’ 21% with 6,265 votes. Laura’s entire ticket including Jack Schnirman and Dean Bennett also won their respective races. With last night’s momentum with that massive win, Laura heads into a tough battle with Republican nominee Jack Martins, a former Mayor, and State Senator. In the 2016 congressional elections he narrowly lost to former Nassau County Executive and now House of Representatives member Tom Suozzi.
As Laura declared victory to dozens of supporters at Nawlins Seafood in Long Beach last night, the entire room was excited to move on to this next stage. With one victory down, it’s time to get rid of the corrupt political machine that has been running Nassau County for too long.
